Entering the new era

Entering a new decade, UNESCO is re-orienting its approach in Vietnam. Instead of acting as a single implementing agent, UNESCO is taking a more collaborative approach, allowing individuals and organisations to be more involved in their future projects. Naturally, they need a visual system for their upcoming communication efforts that reflects this change.

Setting up the change

UNESCO’s Country Strategy for Vietnam in 2020 – 2021 is fittingly entitled ‘Partnership for Progress’. Based on this, we came up with a 2-part symbol that can highlight the collaboration between UNESCO and its partners. UNESCO acts as a literal frame, authoritative and structured, while their partners are ever-changing and flexible. They intertwine to form a plus sign (+), a mark symbolizing positive progress and the partnership involved to make it happen.

Making it simple for implementation

Besides crafting a flexible visual system that support various areas of communication and collaborative partners, we aim to keep the design system as simple as possible so that NPOs like UNESCO Office In Vietnam, often without a dedicated design team, can implement consistently. This is particularly beneficial for UNESCO, as the organisation needs to utilize most of its resources for carrying out development programs.
